Personalization Platform Tiers
Based on your technical and product needs, we offer two tiers of the Personalization Platform. For a simple application without the need to integrate real-time software components, we provide Tier 1: Static Recommendations. This first tier is an easy way to try-out recommendations on your site. For a fully-personalized experience, we offer Tier 2: Dynamic Personalization Platform which creates unique recommendations for each user on your service and allows for multiple expansion feature modules, and customizations to meet your unique product requirements.

The basic MediaUnbound Personalization Platform can be configured to support numerous different media types (both musical and non-musical). Our core technology was built around music, one of the most complex media-types, as well as one of the most extensive. As a result, our technology handles recommendations in high-level production environments for many different types of media, and has the flexibility and rigorous build to handle recommending everything from small unique content sets with little or no metadata to large content sets with extensive metadata.

The content domains listed here are only a partial list of supported content — please inquire directly for additional domains.

  • Ringtones/Ringback Tones: Even though full-length tracks and Ringtones/Ringback tones have substantially overlapping catalogs, MediaUnbound treats the two domains differently. Full-length tracks are meant to be experienced privately and for listening enjoyment. Conversely, Ringtones/Ringback tones are meant to be heard by others and convey a part of one's personality. MediaUnbound’s research indicates that the music one listens to for enjoyment can diverge greatly from the music one uses to define themselves. Therefore, we treat this domain separately from full-length tracks, by seeking out sources of usage data which users “broadcast” to others (i.e. the “My Favorite Music” section on Facebook, MySpace, Friendster, etc.) and using our Human MAs to generate unique datasets focused on music for influencing others.
  • Music Videos: MediaUnbound considers music videos as content elements unique and separate from their underlying musical track. By treating music videos as unique objects, we can find correlations based on video style and director preference in addition to musical preference.
  • Wallpapers: Wallpapers are still images intended to be used as background on mobile devices. In addition to usage data, MediaUnbound Human Media Analyst Team focuses on categories of related images and also analyzes items at the individual image-level. Support for proper filtering of explicit (e.g. adult) images is also included in this tier.
  • Games/Midlets: For applications meant to be run on mobile-platforms, recommendations are intelligently made within and across different canonical game genres (i.e. Card Games, Action, Sports, etc.).

Other supported content includes:
  • TV Shows
  • Movies
  • User-Generated Videos
  • News
  • Audiobooks

TransWorld Entertainment has a network of in-store kiosks for burning custom CDs and downloading full-length tracks to digital devices. Each artist, album and track in the catalog displays related artists, albums, and tracks, respectively. The recommendations are custom-created for TWE's specific catalog and tuned for a purchase environment.
MTVN’s URGE music subscription service utilized the Personalization Platform to create auto-mixes (playlists) for their listeners. Listeners could dynamically generate a mix personalized for their musical tastes with a single click, in addition to generating personalized playlists based on a genre, mood or era. Sliders allowed users to interact directly with the Personalization Platform along axes such as new/old, obscure/popular and more/less familiar.
