Dr. Robert Berwick
Bob is the Vinton Hayes Professor of Computer Science, Engineering and Computational Linguistics and a member of the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. He is a recognized expert in the field of Natural Language Processing and has explored alternate methods to creating recommendation and preference systems. The author of seven books in the areas of machine learning, language and complexity theory, he is the editor of both Computational Intelligence, and Computational Linguistics.
Dr. Pattie Maes
Pattie is internationally known for her work at MIT’s Media Laboratory, where she founded and directs the Software Agents Group. She was a founder of Firefly Network, which created one of the first music recommendation systems and was sold to Microsoft. Among many other honors, Upside included her as one of the most influential netizens and Newsweek named her one of the 100 people to watch in 2000.
Jonathan Zittrain
Jonathan Zittrain is the Jack N. and Lillian R. Berkman Visiting Professor for Entrepreneurial Legal Studies at Harvard Law School and the Chair in Internet Governance and Regulation at Oxford University. Professor Zittrain is a co-founder of HLS’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society and served as its first executive director from 1997-2000. Zittrain’s research includes digital property, privacy, and speech, and the role played by private “middlepeople” in Internet architecture. He recently has appeared on numerous NPR shows, was featured on the Colbert Report, and recently published the book The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It.
